My professional background
I trained at the Gestalt Centre London
and qualified with a Diploma in Counselling. As well as my private practice in London
and Sussex, I currently provide counselling at Shelter from the Storm, a shelter for
homeless people. I
integrate approaches from all my many years of training in my work. I also hold a Certificate in Online Counselling Skills (OCST) and offer counselling by email. I worked for many
years as a therapeutic care worker with people who have mental health problems. I worked for
several
local authorities and charities in London and trained extensively in behavioural
studies,
counselling and group work.
From
1977 to 1982 I trained in group and individual
psychotherapy and started my private practice. My training at
this time
was in Reichian and bioenergetic analysis within a humanistic and
psychodynamic
framework. This training programme was inspired and taught by Tricia Scott
(UKCP Fellow). Other prominent practitioners in this field, including David Boadella, Terry Cooper and Stanley
Keleman, also
contributed to the varied and challenging programme.
Between
1989 and 2012 I worked mainly in the voluntary
sector, at the Ramblers' Association and at the National Deaf Children's Society.
I
am an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling and
Psychotherapy (BACP).
